Farm Fresh Pics – We have two winners!

MattWith more than 650 photos entered and 14,636 votes cast, the Farm Fresh Pics photo contest was an amazing success. Thank you to everyone who uploaded beautiful pictures of farms, families and food — and to everyone who voted for their favorite Pics!

We're very pleased to announce the winners of the Farm Fresh Pics contest. The Grand Prize Winner is Linda B. from Erie, Colorado. Her “Willie Doll at the San Francisco Farmer’s Market” photo received 2,420 votes, meaning she’ll enjoy a trip to St. Louis and front row tickets for Farm Aid 2009 Presented by Horizon Organic!

It was a tough job, but our Farm Fresh Pics judges, including Willie Nelson, Jason Mraz, Elaine Irwin Mellencamp, photographer Paul Natkin and Farm Aid Executive Director Carolyn Mugar picked “Generations of Life and Land” as the photo that best celebrates America's family farms in our judged category. Winner Bob F. of St. Bonifacious, Minnesota will receive an installation and a year of DIRECTV service (the perfect way to enjoy upcoming Farm Aid specials on DIRECTV).

Our top seven honorable mention photographers each received a fabulous VIP gift bag and hundreds of others won prizes including Farm Aid bumper stickers, concert T-shirts, and more.

We were blown away by the stunning photos entered in the contest and the passion supporters expressed for America's tradition of family farmers. Please take a few moments to browse through all the wonderful entries at the Farm Fresh Pics site.

And thanks again to everyone who submitted photos and voted for their favorites — your support will help us continue to stand up for family farmers all year long.

  1. We were sadden to see that the USA picture did not win 1st place. This farmer planted this field right after 9/11 and has kept it up for all of us to enjoy since then. Congrats to the computer savvy winner who was able to take first place in the last 17 seconds of the contest. Thank you to all the people who voted and donated for the USA picture and farmaid.

  2. We want to give a big thanks to everyone who voted for "Heavy Load." It was fun raising money for a good cause! Just want to say that my husband and I were in awe of the USA picture. If we weren't going to take first, we were hoping they would! Incredible picture, period.

Willie is cute. Lovely photo of the older and younger generation looking over the FARM. We need to keep supporting our Family Farmers.
Any new developments in the dairy price crisis?
Thanks to Farm Aid for engaging Secretary Vilsak-Petitioning and speaking with him. Please keep it up.

  4. Jill,
Thank you for your nice comment on the USA picture. I am going to pass that on to the farmer, I know they will appreciate it.. We have found out that a picture of the USA field is hanging in a military airport in Iraq for all soldiers to see as they come and go. Farmers do alot to support this country in many ways.

  5. Thanks to Farm Aid for the fun contest.

There were so many great pictures. I don't know how the committee ever selected just one. The pictures are all so beautiful. I loved the USA picture today, and the teacher-turned-farmer picture, too. I was proud to be in 3rd place behind those photos.

Thanks to everyone who voted, and to my friend who voted in the last minute of the contest and put me over the limit. I don't know how computer-savy Alice is, but she is a generous person, a Willie Nelson fan and a big supporter of Farm Aid and Farmers, and a humanitarian in general. She was at the hospital with her ill brother, and voted on her i-phone just before midnight. I was in third place most of the time, until her generous donation made that picture the winner. She surprised me!

Almost 700 pictures entered! Thanks to all the photographers and everyone. The pictures are wonderful. They would make a beautiful coffee table book.

  6. The contest was very interesting in that it revealed a very interesting cross section of America. Even more interesting was to see what images the contributors sent in revealing what was important to them about America. Those perspectives talk not only about what is beautiful in America, but what is important about America. That viewpoint varies greatly depending where you are from and also what your cultral values are, and what is really important to that person about America, for them and their families.
Yes indeed, a nice coffee table book with photos and text about what is importand and beautiful about America. A good healthy contest with social importance. Nice idea folks.

I too would like to see a book utilizing the pictures and texts from the photo contest. What a lovely and interesting perspective of America that would be.

I have been waiting to see a list of other winners in both the voting and judged categories. When will that information be posted?

  9. I sent in a request (including a SASE) for a list of all the winners and haven't received a thing. The web site said they would be available after September 24. When can I expect a response?
